NORTH MOORE RESIDENCE
Located at 2 North Moore Street at the corner of West Broadway, this single-family residence combines a preserved two-story brick corner building dating to the 1870s with a new six-story addition within the Tribeca West Historic District. The original structure was singled out for preservation for its distinctive corbelled brickwork, unusual acute plan, and prominent corner presence. The Turett Collaborative (TTC) worked closely with the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission to restore the historic building and create a contemporary companion structure that respects the scale and character of the surrounding streets.
Inside, the old and new buildings are fully intertwined, creating a unified home that balances generous entertaining spaces with quieter, more private areas. A central internal courtyard brings light into the middle of the residence and helps organize the main gathering rooms. At the second floor, the two structures flow together to form a continuous sequence of living, dining, kitchen, and media spaces, while roof gardens and skylights above the historic portion draw daylight into the rooms below and extend the experience outdoors.
The home includes a two-car loading dock, a 50-foot indoor lap pool, gym, library, internal courtyard, and screening room, in addition to six bedrooms and eleven baths. TTC guided the project from early studies through construction completion, coordinating approvals and translating the historic and contemporary portions into a single, cohesive residence. The result is a substantial private home that preserves a distinctive historic corner building while introducing a contemporary addition designed for long-term residential use.
