HARLEM RESIDENTIAL COMPLEX

This project explores a new model for shared housing, informed by historical precedents and contemporary approaches to social living. The Turett Collaborative developed a proposal for a ground-up residential building that balances collective space with individual privacy, rethinking how residents live both together and apart.

The design organizes the building around a network of common areas, circulation paths, and landscaped spaces that draw from the patterns of the city. These elements are scaled and adapted to create opportunities for interaction while maintaining a clear distinction between public and private realms. Individual living units are conceived as flexible and efficient, supporting a range of occupants and evolving needs over time.

The project also responds to its adjacency to a public park, using that relationship to shape both planning and atmosphere. Natural light, views, and planted areas are brought into the building to strengthen the connection to the surrounding landscape and support a more environmentally responsive approach.
