LAIGHT STREET LOFT

A Tribeca loft apartment, damaged by flooding , is transformed into a uniquely modern yet warm, inviting home and oasis for a family and their guests

The loft resides in a landmarked warehouse building in the heart of New York’s Tribeca neighborhood. Reclaimed wood beams contrast gracefully with the lowered sheetrock ceiling planes and venetian plastered walls. New white oak flooring was added throughout the apartment and plays off the board formed concrete tiles that define the entry. Smooth and cool stone, glass, and tile surfaces counterbalance the warmth of the wood.

The loft apartment is as much about materiality as it is about light. A sculptural oculus demarks entry into the space. The venetian plaster living room contains thin blades of light, dimmable to fit any occasion. A perimeter ceiling cove highlights the intersection between the reclaimed wood and the contemporary millwork and plaster volumes that define our intervention.

The design of loft is truly an exploration of how old and new elements can enhance each other to create a warm inviting, space for contemporary living.
