LAIGHT STREET LOFT

This Tribeca loft in New York City occupies a landmarked warehouse building and was reworked into a warm, modern home following significant flood damage. The project focused on restoring the space while introducing a more livable and durable environment for everyday use.

The Turett Collaborative approached the interior through a balance of old and new. Existing elements, including reclaimed wood beams, were retained and paired with updated finishes such as white oak flooring, Venetian plaster walls, and board-formed concrete at the entry. These materials create a contrast between the building’s industrial past and a more refined, contemporary interior.

Light plays a central role throughout the apartment. A sculptural oculus marks the entry, while carefully placed ceiling details and concealed lighting bring a softer, more controlled brightness into the main living areas. Subtle transitions between materials such as wood, plaster, glass, and stone help define different parts of the home without dividing it.

The result is a space that feels grounded in its original character and adapted to present-day living, offering a calm and inviting environment within the larger context of the city.
