WEST CHELSEA PENTHOUSE

A bespoke contemporary home in West Chelsea for an art-collecting family in a large and complex luxury development.

Moving from a home previously designed by Turett, the clients behind this incredible penthouse called upon TTC to help customize their new home in a building still under construction.  They entrusted Turett, along with the interior design firm Pamplemousse Design, to collaborate and work with the building’s developer, architects and contractors to create a bespoke home in a luxury high-rise development.  TTC worked at the outset to quickly study and suggest modifications to optimize the layout to the owners’ needs, as well as incorporate changes to the interior finishes, fixtures and millwork.

The firm then acted as the design architect and project manager for the numerous parties involved in realizing this intricate project.  All this was accomplished under an incredibly tight timeline, while the building was already in construction, and where design decisions needed to be integrated into the flow of the overall project.  TTC’s early and ongoing involvement from the time of the purchase through the end of construction ensured that the project goals were met and that they stayed within the planned timeline and budget.

The genesis of the project is the family and gathering areas of the home - the kitchen, dining room and playroom.  Their layout and central relationships with the rest of the apartment, along with their prominent position in the plan and access to extraordinary views, drove the design of this penthouse.  Acting as a pivot point between the public and private sections of the apartment, a continuous 65ft long exposure was opened up and re-organized to house the kitchen, breakfast nook and dining room - anchored by a free-floating custom 11ft tall wine display, concealing a pantry.  Elsewhere in the home, unique finishes and built-in millwork were used to define individual areas.  Beyond that, the other goals were to identify and capture areas of additional space and storage for the family and execute the aesthetically and technically demanding details.  Nearly every space in the apartment received a personalized touch, with custom finishes and millwork that were designed to harmonize with the building’s own finishes and unique design elements.
